April Psonis is a self-taught artist based in Melbourne. She paints from her home in Prahran, where she lives with her husband and very busy 3-year-old.
Born and raised in Tasmania, Psonis developed a natural love for painting and drawing at a very young age, describing her creativity as something that is deeply imbedded within her family, originating from her very talented grandmother.
Psonis’ style has evolved organically over the years, where she once learnt her brush to realism, she now loves to create abstract works that push against restraint and the ordinary. Drawing from a diverse range of influences, Psonis describes the female form as her most poignant source. Through her unique style, she has always created works that celebrate the female form in all its power, inviting her audience to embark on a journey of introspection and discovery.
Psonis primarily works with mixed mediums including acrylic, pencil and gesso to create art that explores a relationship between soft and hard or masculine and feminine, works that command presence.
Fuelled by the solace Psonis finds in painting, she continues to push the boundaries of her artistic career. Through her art she hopes to inspire and evoke a deep feeling of respect for the powerhouse that is the female form.
