ARTIST BIO

Jessie Hartwig-Boutkan

Jessie is an emerging figurative artist living and painting on Wadandi Boodja, saltwater people’s country, Margaret River. She is self-taught, having been shaped and guided by herGrandmother, Newcastle artist, Ronda Hartwig.

Always taken with the harshness and humour that the Australian literal and cultural landscapes hold, Jessie’s work speaks to the stillness of the scenes of our bush poets, our drovers, our farmers and fishermen.

Released in small series of figures, animals and wears that play with colours, layers, composition and scale, Jessie’s art is filled to the brim with familiarity and richness that leaves space for interpretation from the audience’s gaze.

Off the bat of winning the Margaret River Art Auction’s ‘Emerging Artist Prize’ in 2023, Jessie created her art business ‘Farbe Studio’. The canvases and bespoke timber frames are handmade in-house by her carpenter husband, Jack.

The pieces created by Farbe Studio have been exhibited in various stores and galleries and photoshoots for interior designer projects.
